Welcome

In May, 2003, three former high-ranking National Park Service employees spoke at a Press Conference in Washington DC against actions being taken by Bush Administration officials that were having detrimental effects on the National Park Service and the national park system. At the same time, a letter was sent to President Bush and Interior Secretary Norton, signed by 20 NPS retirees, voicing similar concerns. On August 15, 2003, over 120 NPS retirees signed and released another letter to President George W. Bush and Interior Secretary Gale Norton calling for an end to the Administration's unprecedented attack on national parks. We have developed this website as a way to voice our concerns about actions being undertaken that we feel could diminish the values and purposes for which the national park system was established.

"If we are going to succeed in preserving the greatness of the national parks, they must be held inviolate. They represent the last stands of primitive America. If we are going to whittle away at them we should recognize, at the very beginning, that all such whittlings are cumulative, and that the end result will be mediocrity." - Newton Drury
